1. Information We Collect

• Account Information: Name, email address, and profile photo when you register or sign in with Google.
• Academic Data: Timetable entries, attendance records, tasks, assignments, notes, and study materials you create inside the app.
• Usage Data: Focus session durations, habit tracking data, expense logs, and goal progress.
• Community Data: Posts, comments, messages, and group interactions within the Community Hub.
• Device Information: Device type, operating system version, and app version for debugging and performance improvement.
• Files & Media: PDFs and images you upload for academic purposes, stored securely via Cloudinary.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To provide and maintain Student OS features and services.
• To authenticate your identity and manage your account securely.
• To sync your academic data across your devices.
• To send academic notifications related to your timetable, tasks, and schedule.
• To power AI-assisted study features using your academic context.
• To analyze usage patterns and improve overall app performance.

3. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely using MongoDB Atlas (cloud database) with end-to-end encrypted connections. File uploads are managed by Cloudinary with industry-standard security protocols. We use JWT tokens for session authentication and implement rate limiting and security headers (via Helmet.js) to protect against unauthorized access.

4. Google Sign-In

Student OS supports Google Sign-In via Google OAuth 2.0. When you sign in with Google, we receive only your name, email address, and profile picture. We do not receive or store your Google account password. Your Google credentials are used solely to create and manage your Student OS account.

5. Data Sharing & Third Parties

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share limited data only with:

• MongoDB Atlas – Secure cloud database storage.
• Cloudinary – File and image storage service.
• Google – OAuth 2.0 authentication provider.
• Render – Cloud hosting provider for our backend.
• Legal Requirements – When required by applicable law or to protect our legal rights.

6. Community Features

Posts, comments, and profile information shared in the Community Hub are visible to other Student OS users. You can delete your own posts at any time. Direct messages are only visible to the sender and the recipient and are not shared with any third parties.

7. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account remains active. You may request full deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us. Upon receiving a valid deletion request, your data will be permanently removed within 30 days.

8. Children's Privacy

Student OS is designed for students aged 13 and above. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately and we will take appropriate action to remove such data.

9. Your Privacy Rights

• Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Correction: Update or correct any inaccurate information in your account.
• Deletion: Request permanent deletion of your account and all associated data.
• Data Portability: Request your data in a machine-readable format.
• Withdraw Consent: Revoke Google Sign-In permissions at any time via your Google account settings.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or via email. Your continued use of Student OS after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
